He was then affected to the ministry of transport and irrigation (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u5de5\u90e8<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">). In 1600, he became deputy inspector (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u526f\u4f7f<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">) in Fujian. In 1607, he was transferred to the province of Huguang (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u6e56\u5e7f\u526f\u4f7f<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">). From 1610 through to 1616, he was stationed in Zhejiang. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">2 . The book : <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i> Yue Juan<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u8d8a\u954c <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">was published in 1611<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\uff08\u4e07\u5386\u4e09\u5341\u4e5d\u5e74<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">), while Wang Zaijin was on duty in Zhejiang Province. The book is part of the compilation called \u201cSiku jinhui shu congkan\u201d <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u56db\u5eab\u7981\u6bc0\u66f8\u53e2\u520a <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">(<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Books<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Listed as \u201cTo Be Banned or Destroyed\u201d (by<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Editors of<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">the<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Complete<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Collection) of the<\/span><\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Four Treasures<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">), published by Beijing chubanshe in 2000. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Yue Juan<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> relates observations and political proposals made by the author between 1610 and 1611. In particular, it includes five records of court cases against merchants (and others) trading with Japan at the end of the Ming dynasty. I choose 3 of these 5 cases, which reveal the complex mechanism of pooling capital and cargoes before venturing for overseas trade. They also describe in a very vivid way the role of local administration in terms of a still prohibited trade with Japan. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">3. The \u00a0context : \u00a0the \u00a0maritime \u00a0trade. \u00a0 From 1567 (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u9686\u5e86\u5143\u5e74<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">) on, the central government lifted the ban on maritime trade (<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: \u65b0\u7d30\u660e\u9ad4;\"><span lang=\"zh-TW\">\u6d77 \u7981<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman,serif;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">) in the Fujian Province. Although merchants obtained the permission to undertake overseas commercial operations, trade with Japan was still prohibited.
